Ticks in May – You bet ya!!

Millie went to Palm Beach for the weekend. On Tuesday last week she came in to see me with eye problems. Millie unfortunately was born with no tear glands so she has always had dry eyes, but her left eye was particularly bad.

On careful examination I found a tick above her left eye. The tick had caused local paralysis of the facial nerve on the left side and rendered Milly unable to blink.

Facial Nerve Paralysis may be permanent after ticks. There is no safe time for ticks. The Peak period is from September-October through to January but you must be vigilant all year round. Ticks are found on the coast and 20km inland. They stretch from Noosa in the North to the Victorian Border in the South.

Vet HQ recommends Advantix in dog only households, Frontline spray for cats and dogs and Proban tablets when in tick areas.
