Pets in the Park: Supporting Homeless Pets

In this Geoffisode, Dr Geoff introduces Roxy, a dog who recently underwent surgery to remove a large tumour. Her owners could not afford veterinary care, but through the Pets in the Park program, Roxy received surgery and aftercare at no cost.

Vet HQ Darlinghurst and Double Bay teams volunteer once or twice a month to provide surgeries, health checks, and preventative treatments for pets belonging to homeless people in Sydney. Every animal receives the same high standard of care as those seen in our clinics.

“Every pet deserves expert care, no matter their owner’s circumstances.” — Dr Geoff, Vet HQ Darlinghurst

What is Pets in the Park, and how does Vet HQ take part?

Pets in the Park is a free veterinary outreach event (run by Pets In The Park) that offers vet checks, vaccinations, parasite control, and more for pets of people who are homeless or vulnerable. Vet HQ helps by sending veterinarians and nurses and donating services.

What services does Vet HQ provide through Pets in the Park?

Vet HQ has provided free vet check-ups, vaccinations, desexing (spay/neuter), soft-tissue surgeries, and offered pet supplies such as bedding and medication.

Can people near Darlinghurst access Pets in the Park services?

Yes. There are clinics held in parks in the Sydney area, and clients from Darlinghurst can attend when events are scheduled. Keep an eye on our social media as we often promote these events in advance.

Are the Pets in the Park clinics free?

Most basic services, such as vaccinations, medical assessments, and parasite treatments, are free. Some services (surgery, dentistry) might have limited availability and depend on donations/resources.

How can I help support Pets in the Park?

You can help by donating pet supplies (such as food, bedding, and medications), volunteering at clinics, or spreading the word so that people who need it know about the events. Vet HQ often partners with community organisations to raise support.
